Overview:
The program of BS in Russian Language and Literature (BS RLL) consists of 49 courses with a total of 140 credit hours, to be completed over a period of four years and eight semesters. The program is designed for students with no prior background in Russian and takes them progressively from the basics of the language to an advanced command of it.
The courses in BS RLL range from General Education courses to Major courses, and cover the full spectrum of language acquisition, linguistics, literature, and translation. Language skills courses (Vocabulary Development, Applied Grammar, Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing Skills) build a strong practical foundation in Russian from the very first semester. These are followed by courses in Linguistics (Introduction to Linguistics, Russian Lexicology, Morphology, Syntax, and Stylistics), which develop a systematic understanding of how the language works. Alongside these, students study Russian Literature and Cultural Studies, tracing its development from the 18th century through to contemporary writing, together with courses on Russian culture and civilization. The program also includes dedicated courses in Translation, Teaching Methodology, and Research Methodology, preparing students for careers as translators and educators, and equipping them with the tools for independent academic research. Interdisciplinary courses in Artificial Intelligence for Language Learning and Intercultural Communication, along with a Capstone Project and Internship, connect this theoretical and linguistic training to real-world, practice-oriented application.
This degree program caters to the practical needs and aptitude of the learners, and enhances their employability in fields such as education, translation, diplomacy, research, and international cooperation with Russian-speaking countries.
